If you have a foot or feet, that turn out or in, are flat or have a high arch, are narrow or wide, bunions, corns, okay ANY foot variation really, they could be wreaking havoc on your knees, hips and even shoulders! Take a look at your feet, get really intimate with them and what they do.
They can be your best friend or worst enemy. Treat them well and everything up the chain will follow! I’m speaking from experience and from so much research. Years ago I fractured my foot, that lead so some knee pain, then, to the whole left side of my body being tight and frankly out of wack. Don’t lean into the fact that you have a foot issue on one side but your shoulder hurts on the other side. Trust me, everything is tightly connected and muscle things can criss-cross the body. Okay, now that you are totally depressed let me give you some suggestions for relief!
Use your feet!Yep, that is right, I'm putting a HUGE photo of my foot for your viewing. Stretch and exercise your feet regularly!
My top 3 suggestions::
Roll your feet with an SMR tool, RAD tools are my go to’s. Strengthen your feet, go barefoot more often. Do exercises to strengthen your feet. (If you need help in this arena look for a personal trainer or corrective exercise specialist who knows the ins and outs of feet). Of course go barefoot in safe areas where you will not end up with an injury. I'm almost always barefoot at home!Go to a shoe store that looks at your stride and make sure you are not exasperating the issue with your shoes. Some running stores will do a gate/stride analysis which is helpful to pick out the right shoe.
Please keep me updated on your foot journey!
